JEE MainJEE Main is a national level entrance exam conducted to grant admissions in BE, B.Tech, B.Arch and B.Plan courses. Many prestigious institutions like NITs, IIITs, CFITs and several other state-level colleges across India consider the JEE main scores for admissions. However, admissions to IITs is provided only after qualifying the JEE Advanced exam. The candidates who successfully qualify the JEE Main will be eligible for JEE Advanced. This article provides the complete details of the JEE Main 2024 exams such as application, eligibility, pattern, schedule, etc.

JEE Main 2024 Application Form

Applicants can fill and submit the application form for JEE Main 2024 only through online mode. Aadhaar Card number is mandatory in order to apply for JEE Main 2024 exam. The candidates who have passed or appearing in Class 12 examination from the states of J&K, Assam & Meghalaya can enter the passport number, ration card number, bank account number or any other valid Govt. identity number and should select the city of examination in these states only.

The candidates will have to provide the personal details of name, father’s name, mother’s name, date of birth, gender, nationality, category, mailing address, etc and Educational details like qualifying exam name, board, marks, roll number, etc in the application form.

Candidates should enter all the details very carefully, as an incorrect or incomplete application will be liable for rejection.

Candidates need to upload the scanned copies of their recent passport size photo, their signature as well as Duly verified result awaited attestation form, Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS etc.), PwD certificate.

The visually challenged candidates with 40% or more disability can request for a scribe to the centre superintendent at least two days before the examination. The candidates will not be allowed to bring their own scribe.

JEE Main 2024 Application fee

The application fee can be paid using SBI/Canara Bank/HDFC Bank/ICICI Bank/Paytm Payment Gateway through Debit Card/Credit Card / Net Banking/UPI. Any Demand Draft, Money order, IPO will not be considered for application fee payment. Depending on your category and whether you opt for exam center in India or outside the country, you have to pay the application fee as per the given structure:

The candidate should take a printout of the acknowledgement page that appears after the payment of fees. This acknowledgement must be kept safe for future correspondence. There is no need to send a hard copy of application form to the JEE Main office.

Failure of Exam Fee Payment

The candidates who have submitted their fee via e-Challan needs to contact the concerned banks immediately if their fee payment status is not OK.

Those who have paid the fee via debit card/ credit card need to pay the fee once again, in case of status no OK. The amount, if deducted during failed payment, will be refunded in to the bank account within 7-10 days.

JEE Main 2024 Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

Indian nationals/ OCI/PIO/ Foreign nationals can apply for IIT Main 2024.

Age Criteria

There is no prescribed age criterion for taking JEE Main.

Academic Criteria

  • The candidate should have passed 10+2 or equivalent qualifying exam in the year 2020 or 2021. Those who will be appearing in the year 2024 are also eligible.
  • The students who appeared in the 10+2 exam in the year 2016 but were not able to pass and later on cleared the same in the year 2019 are not eligible to apply.
  • The applicants must have passed the qualifying exam with minimum 5 subjects: Language, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry/ Biology/ Biotechnology/ Technical Vocational Subject, and any other subject.
  • The candidate appearing in six subjects, the subject (fifth/sixth) with better marks will be considered.

Number of Attempts

  • There is no restricted number of attempts for JEE Main.

Eligibility for Admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating through Seat Allocation Board

The applicants who have passed the class 12th exam with at least 75% marks or be in top 20% of their respective boards with subject combination as follows are eligible:

Eligibility for Admission to Other Institutions

The criteria mentioned above can be followed by other institution participating through JoSAA/ CSAB. To offer admissions in the colleges affiliated to state universities, the state can make the rank list as per their own criteria.

Note: For admissions to institutes in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland and Odisha, the age limit and number of attempts will be as their past practice (when they conducted state-level exam). This is not applicable to IITs/ NITs/ IIITs/ CFTIs.

JEE Main 2024 Syllabus

According to JEE Main syllabus, for Paper 1, the questions will be asked from the subjects of Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics as per the class 11th & 12th curriculum. For Paper 2, the applicants should prepare form subjects like Mathematics, Aptitude test, Drawing etc.

IIT JEE 2024 Admit Card

The admit card will be available for download on the official website. The admit card is expected to be released in the second week of Jan 2024. All the candidates who have submitted the online application and paid the examination fee on time will be able to download their admit cards. Applicants have to enter their Application Number, Date of Birth and Security Code in order to download admit card. Candidates have to carry any 1 photo identity proof along with the admit card at the examination venue.

JEE Main 2024 Exam Center

The JEE Main 2024 will be conducted in different cities in India as well as abroad.

The candidates will have to make 4 choices for pen-paper based exam and 1 for computer-based exam.

The applicants who choose a city for Paper 1 where exam will be conducted only in computer-based mode and also wish to appear for Paper 2 (conducted only in pen-paper mode), he/she will have to opt for 4 other center choices for Paper 2.

On the basis of choice made and the availability of seat, the selected city will be allotted to the candidate for taking the exam.

The exam authority also has the right to allot any other exam center in case of seat unavailability or other reasons.

No changes in the allotted exam center will be entertained.

State code of Eligibility for JEE Main

According to the state in which the study centre is situated, the candidates need to provide the State code of Eligibility.

If a candidate has passed the qualifying exam from one state but appeared for improvement from another state, his/ her state code of eligibility will be from where he/she has originally passed the qualifying exam.

The candidates form NIOS should select the state code in which their study center is located.

JEE Mains 2024 Answer Key

The answer keys will be released by the concerned authorities after a few days of commencement of exam. Images of OMR sheets will also be published along with the answer keys. The answer keys can be challenged by making a payment of Rs 1000/- per question. The amount can be paid via debit card/ credit card. If the board accepts the challenge and it is found to be true, the amount will be reversed in the candidates’ account.

JEE Main 2024 Result and Score

JEE Main 2024 result will be declared online which will consist of candidate’s score and rank. The score will comprise the actual marks obtained along with the status of those who qualify for appearing in JEE Advanced 2024. The rank will comprise of both All India Rank and All India Category Rank. After the declaration of result, a rank list will be created as per the marks scored by the candidates in JEE Main 2024 examination. Only the All India Rank (AIR) will be used for admissions through Central Seat Allocation Board to NITs/ IIITs/ CFTIs/ SFIs/ Others. The candidates should download their score/ rank cards from the JEE (Main) website.

Tie-Breaker

For Paper 1

  • Marks obtained in Mathematics
  • Marks obtained in Physics
  • Ratio of positive marks and negative marks: Candidate having higher absolute value of the ratio will be given better rank.
  • If the resolution is not possible after all these, candidates will be given the same rank.

For Paper 2

  • Marks obtained in Aptitude Test
  • Marks obtained in Drawing Test
  • Ratio of positive marks and negative marks: Candidate having higher absolute value of the ratio will be given better rank.
  • If the resolution is not possible after all these, candidates will be given the same rank.

JEE Main Counselling and Admission 2024

After declaration of result, the data is handed over to Seat Allocation Board or the concerned state government/ institute for Seat Allocation Process and admission procedure. The online centralized counseling will be conducted by JoSAA and CSAB in different rounds. Applicants will be required to fill their preferences of colleges and courses and a seat will be allotted to them as per their choice made and seat availability.

At the time of admission to the allotted institute, the candidates will have to verify their original documents. The candidates from reserved category will have to bring the category certificate issued by the competent authority.

Note: Admission to IITs and ISM Dhanbad will be provided on the basis of rank in IIT Advanced. Those who have already taken admission on the basis of their IIT Main rank can appear for the IIT Advance exam too.
