Please note the exam patterns are different for UG and PG courses as explained below.

CLAT Under Graduate (UG) Exam Pattern 

  • Mode of examination – Online (Computer based test)
  • Type of questions – Objective type multiple choice questions
  • Number of questions – 150
  • Language of questions – English language only
  • Maximum Marks – 150
  • Marking Scheme – Each question will carry 1 mark
  • Negative Marking – Not applicable.

  • Marking Scheme – Each question will carry 1 mark. 25 marks each for descriptive type questions
  • Negative Marking – 0.25 will be deducted in case of an incorrect answer

CLAT Syllabus 

  • Candidates should note that there is no prescribed CLAT syllabus.
  • For UG courses, the questions will be asked from the subjects like English including Comprehension, General Knowledge, Mathematics (taught up to 10th class), Legal Aptitude and Legal Reasoning sections.
  • At the same time, for PG courses, the question will be derived from topics like constitutional Law, Jurisprudence and other law subjects such as Contract, Torts, Criminal Law, International Law, Environment Law and Human Rights topics.
  • Candidates should prepare from the previous year’s question paper and model test paper.
  • Going through the previous year’s question paper can help a student a lot in order to determine the difficulty level of the question paper and understanding the type of questions.
  • For better preparation, aspirants are advised not to get panic and take enough sleep. Apart from this, a healthy diet is also important. Keep at least a week for revision after completing the syllabus.
