IIT JAM Application Form
IIT JAM examination is conducted to shortlist candidates for admission to IISc Bangalore and IITs across India. Those interested candidates who want to get admission need to fill and submit the IIT JAM application form before the last date. The application form will release in online mode only. The authorities will not release any printed application form offline. It is important for candidates to ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria before filling the form. Data required to fill IIT JAM Application Form
Given below is the list of data and information required in order to fill and submit the application form of IIT JAM.
- Address for communication (including PIN code)
- College name and address with PIN code
- Choice of JAM examination cities
- A high-quality image of the candidate’s signature conforming to the requirements specified
- Scanned copy of PwD Certificate (if applicable) in pdf format
- Net-banking/debit card/credit card details for fee payment
- Eligibility degree details
- JAM paper(s)
- A high-quality image of the candidate’s photograph conforming to the requirements specified
- Scanned copy of the Category (SC/ST) Certificate (if applicable) in pdf format
- Details of the valid Identity Document (ID) (This ID proof, in original, should be carried by the candidate to the examination hall)
How to apply for IIT JAM?
Those interested candidates who meet the IIT JAM eligibility criteria should fill and submit the application form before the last date. Given below are the steps that you need to follow in order to submit the IIT JAM application form.
1st Step – Registration Process
- To begin the application process, candidates have to visit the official website i.e. http://jam.iisc.ac.in.
- You need to click on the “Candidates portal” link available on the homepage.
- Then, you need to register as a new candidate.
- At the time of registration, you will be asked to provide your name, email address, phone number, and password.
- Candidates must provide the email address and phone number that he/she uses and checks frequently, as all communication to the candidate from IIT JAM will be sent to this E-mail address and phone number.
- Upon successful registration, Enrolment ID will be sent to your registered Email ID and Phone number.
2nd Step – Login and fill the online application form.
- Once registered, you will have to log in by entering your enrolment ID and password.
- After logging in, the main application form will appear on your screen.
- In the main application form, you will have to provide all the necessary detail accurately.
- Some of the important details to be entered in the application form are as follows.
- Personal Details – Name, Gender, Date of birth, Mobile Number, Email Address, category, PwD, etc.
- Parent’s Details – Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Mobile number of parents, Occupation, etc.
- Educational Details – Qualifying degree, percentage of marks/ CGPA, institute from which qualifying degree is obtained, etc.
- Other Details – City Choices, the number, choice of the test paper(s).
- At the time of entering the details, it is also compulsory for candidates to provide information about any one of the following photo ID cards for personal ID information: Aadhaar ID, College ID, Driving License, Employee ID, PAN Card, Passport, or Voter ID.
3rd Step – Uploading the documents
- After filling the application form, candidates have to upload scanned images of their photograph, signature, and category certificates. The details of each document to be uploaded are as follows.
- Photograph
- The photograph uploaded should match your appearance on the day of the examination.
- You need to upload a passport size (3.5 cm Width × 4.5 cm Height) photograph in JPEG format.
- The photograph must be recent and in colour.
- The maximum size of the JPEG image can be 480×640 in pixels. The minimum pixel size of the JPEG image should be 240×320. The file size of the image should be in the range of 50KB to 200KB.
- Please note that the Background of the photograph must be white or light colored.
- The face of the candidate must occupy at least 50% of the area of the photograph with a full-face view looking into the camera directly
- You should also note that the main features of the face must not be covered by hair of the head, any cloth, or any shadow. Forehead, eyes, nose, and chin should be clearly visible.
- In case you wear spectacles then a photograph with glare on glasses is not acceptable in your photo
- Signature
- In order to upload a signature, you should draw a rectangular box of size 2 cm × 7 cm (Height × Width) on white paper. Sign with black or dark blue ink pen completely within this box horizontally.
- Remember, signature in capital letters or in colour other than black or blue will be rejected.
- The image should be in JPEG format.
- The maximum image size of the signature should be 160×560 in pixels and the minimum image size of the signature should be 80×280 in pixels.
- Also, note that the file size of the image should be in the range of 5KB to 100KB.
- Category Certificate
- Uploaded category certificate is important only for SC and ST candidates.
- Certificate issued only by authorized officials shall be valid. Candidates must furnish the same document at the time of admission.
- OBC – NCL/ EWS candidates are not required to submit/ upload any category certificate.
4th Step – Application Fee Payment
- After uploading the document, you will be redirected to the application fee payment page.
- The application fees are different for candidates from different categories as shown in the following table.

- The application fees can be paid online using SBI Net Banking, Other banks net banking, Credit cards, Foreign Cards, Debit Cards, UPI/ Wallet.
Note: After submitting the application fee and fees, you should take a printout of the confirmation page and fee receipt for future references.
Frequently Asked Questions
Question – 1: By mistake, I have entered incorrect information while entering my Category or Date of Birth or Name or Parent’s/ Guardian’s Name or College Name or Degree or Year of Graduation or Some other field). How do I fix it?
Answer: Authorities will provide a correction window through the JOAPS portal so that candidates can rectify their mistakes.
Question – 2: I want to change my exam city preference. What should I do?
Answer: Well, this is allowed in exceptional circumstances only. You can submit a request for the same through the JOAPS portal. You will also have to pay Rs. 500/- for the same.
Question – 3: Why my application showing “Under Process” or “Under Scrutiny”?
Answer: All applications will go through scrutiny. You will get a confirmation email after your application is scrutinized.
Question – 4: Do I have to pay any additional fee in order to fix mistakes in my application form?
Answer: No, there is no need to pay any extra amount to fix application form mistakes.
